“An App Suite in a Sheet” – possibly the most concise description of Smartsheet we’ve seen yet. The folks at The Launchpad have written a tight synopsis of Smartsheet with that title.
““This web-based project and work management program has a multi-faceted app-like interface that can be customized to support any aspect of your business. ….SmartSheet’s unique interface is just one more blow to the old concept of comprehensive software suites for your desktop loaded with programs that are rarely if ever used.”
We can confirm The Launchpad’s views. For many small businesses and teams inside larger ones, Smartsheet has become the main tool of choice for managing just about everything. By combining macro statistics on customer source, templates used, and activity, we can see the incredibly broad range of utility Smartsheet serves for our customers.
Usage by Sheet Count
Certainly the LiquidConcrete case study on Google’s Enterprise Blog is a good example of running the business on Smartsheet.
“The two keys for us are ease of use and the flexibility, and we've yet to come across a type of work that can't be managed in Smartsheet and Google Apps. We also love that it's a fraction of the cost of many of the other solutions we've looked at and we don't have to hire expensive consultants to customize it.” – Tom Hippensteel, VP, LiquidConcrete
To get an idea for the range of utility, you can leave the small manufacturing example at LiquidConcrete and go to Jim Well’s use for music composition at Scorecast Online:
“As a composer using SmartSheet, you might think of designing a set of smart sheets that work like the documents you (and everyone else in the film music business) are already familiar with, such as spotting notes, timing breakdown, orchestral breakdown, recording session plan, track log, and so on. Up to a point, that particular approach could also be taken with a traditional spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft’s Excel. However, the unique palette of functions SmartSheet offers let you incorporate a much wider and more imaginative spectrum of collaboration-supporting data and functionality into a smart sheet than you could into an ordinary spreadsheet.” - Jim Well
All in, I think “App Suite in a Sheet” is an excellent description.
