Manage and Print Your Smartsheet in a Calendar View

Mark Mader - Aug 7 2009 - 2:50pm

The 'Smartsheet Grid' has been the cornerstone of the Smartsheet application since the company won its first customer back in August of 2006.  For managing pipelines, projects, marketing lists, customer feedback, goals, meeting deliverables (the list goes on and on...) the grid is fantastic. It's easy to enter data, quick to edit, and is pretty darn unintimidating.  In managing events, projects, and other workflows that involve dates, it became evident that a calendar display of one's information would be a major win for our customers.  Yesterday evening the calendar view was released. It is available to all subscribers and those with whom they collaborate.

In addition to having your rows displayed on a calendar (just click on the calendar icon in the toolbar), here are five tips to help you master this new feature:

  • Double-click on any item and edit its details without having to toggle back to the grid view
  • Print the calendar via .PDF (File menu in the toolbar) - and unlike some calendar solutions we don't arbitrarily truncate entries if there are 'too many'
  • Drag and drop or change duration of an item by dragging its edges
  • Display your reminders alongside your row information (to set a reminder on a row, right-click or ctrl-click (Mac) and select Set Reminder
  • Adjust your timeframe using the drop-down selector directly above the calendar

We'd love to know what you think about the first version of the Smartsheet Calendar view.  How can we make it work even better for you?

Sync with Google Calendar

Is it possible to see the reminders on the Google calendar so I can sync it with my PDA?

Drag-and-drop in Calendar View

Mark,

Nice post, but you forgot to mention that the calendar has drag-and-drop capability for the various items it contains. If you want to change the date of something, simply drag it to the new date, and drop it. If you want to extend the duration of something, simply drag the edge (start or end) to the new date.
