Smartsheet Sign-In integration with Google Apps and Google accounts is now available. It is the first of a few major items we have on deck for October 2009.

The feature helps Google users interacting with Smartsheet, whether they are returning or signing up for a free trial account. The benefits? Easy signup, rapid login, and fewer passwords to remember.

From the Smartsheet login page, existing Smartsheet users can choose between signing in with their Smartsheet password or their Google credentials. Google users new to Smartsheet can now instantly create a free Smartsheet trial account by shortcutting the sign up process and eliminating the need to set a Smartsheet specific password.

Google Apps users

If the e-mail you use to access Smartsheet is the same as your Google Apps account:

  • Click the Use my Google Apps Account link on the login page and enter your e-mail address. Your Google Apps domain will be verified.
  • If you are already signed into Google Apps, you will be asked to allow your e-mail address to be shared with www.smartsheet.com.

For subsequent logins, Google Apps users can choose an auto sign-in link (bypassing the Smartsheet login page altogether) by using https://www.smartsheet.com/b/openid/ga/YourDomain

Note to Google App Premier and Education Edition users: By default, these editions have the Federated Login Service disabled. For the integrated sign-in to work, your domain admin must enable it in the Control Panel at http://www.google.com/a/cpanel/YourDomain/SetupIdp.

Google account users

If the e-mail you use to access Smartsheet is the same as your Google account, you can sign in to Smartsheet by clicking "Use my Google Account" on the Smartsheet login page. The first time you click the Google Account link, you will be asked to allow your e-mail address to be shared with www.smartsheet.com. For subsequent logins, if you are already signed into your Google account, you will be taken directly into the Smartsheet application.

We hope you enjoy the speed of signing in with your Google credentials and the convenience of managing a single login and password.

Is Smartsheet's Integrated Sign-In with Google Secure?

Yes.  Your Google password is not shared with Smartsheet at any point.  Instead, when you authenticate on Google's site, an authorization key that in no way resembles your Google password is linked to your Smartsheet account profile.
