Smartsheet Update - November 2008

Mark Mader - Nov 6 2008 - 1:45pm

Following a three month period during which 10,000 people experienced the new version of Smartsheet, we officially released the new service in mid-October. With weekly usage growing 20+% week over week for the last two months, we're thrilled that you think we're onto something great!

We're not about to slow down now. The development team continues to make great progress in areas that make your Smartsheet experience easier, faster, and more valuable. We'd like to update you on three things:

  1. Top 5 new features
  2. Improvements we've made to existing features
  3. What's in store for the coming months...

These 5 NEW Features are now available:

  • Send Row with links to row level attachments:
Right click and send one or more rows. Recipients don't need a login or password to access row information, discussion content, and links to the attached files (up to 30MB! per file). It's the fastest way to send large files.
  • Notifications:
Set sheet specific rules that notify you and others via email when things change.
  • Row level Discussions:
Initiate, reply, and attach files to discussions on any row
  • Reporting (trial and paid accounts only):
Create dynamic, *updateable* lists from any information in Smartsheet
  • Update Requests:
Row and Sheet level update requests enable you to receive secure updates from people on a single row, multiple rows, or an entire sheet. As Scott Blitstein of WebWorkerDaily.com describes the feature, "I really can't stress how easy and seamlessly this is done."

Improvements to Existing Features:

In addition to delivering new features, we've also spent time on improving existing workflows. Among the 100+ completed enhancement requests are improvements to Logo and Color settings at account and workspace levels. Daily delivery of quick links to recently viewed sheets is now available through a Morning Mail (opt-in on Account Info & Settings form). Import processing of Excel files and logo rendering on export to PDF are also much improved.

In the Works...

We have great things in store for the next two months. Expanded browser support (Safari and Chrome) and a Firefox add-on for rapid task entry will be available within weeks. The heavily requested Math and Date formula support is also targeted for delivery next month.

For those of you who tote your smartphone wherever you go, you'll be happy to hear that Smartsheet Mobile is off the drawing board and in development as well. More information on that in next month's update.

Thanks for your ongoing support!
