What I do:

I communicate with my team members on a regular basis, staying up to date on where things stand, providing guidance, helping to remove obstacles, and escalating issues as needed. I also participate in several cross-departmental projects, making sure that my assignments are completed and getting updates on work done by others. On a regular basis, I provide updates to the exec team on status of key projects and progress toward team goals.

How I use Smartsheet:

I use Smartsheet to communicate corporate, team and individual goals and track progress against them. Goal sheets and project plans are updated in real time and, because it is web based, information is accessible to those involved at any time, in any location. I can see a history of changes. Email updates automatically update the relevant sheet. Automated notifications keep me up to date when things change. Since Smartsheet lets us see the status of things in real time, our meetings are focused on solving problems, not reviewing where things stand. I rely on the following Smartsheet capabilities to stay on top of things:
  • Comprehensive view of team task assignments and deadlines
  • Email update requests that update the sheet (no need to save all my email)
  • Automated notifications
  • Summary reports provide critical project information quickly for an executive snapshot
