You can search across everything in Smartsheet, including:
- Sheet, Report, and template names
- Text in a row
- Attachment titles and descriptions (we do not search the contents of your file attachments)
- Discussion titles, comments on discussions, and attachment titles on discussions
How to Search
- Click on the Search button at the top
- Type in your search term and hit Enter key or click on the search icon
- Filter your results on the right:
- search across all sheets or only the sheet you have open
- limit results to sheet names, rows, attachments or discussions
- Select display options: group results by sheet or display as a simple list
- Shortcuts:
- Use an asterisk * as a wildcard. For example, typing in John* would return John, John's, Johnson, and Johnny
- Start with s: to only search sheet names (e.g., type in s:Q3 to only return sheets with the Q3 in the name).
- Start with a: to only search attachments (e.g., type in a:Budget to only return attachments with Budget in the file name).
Working with Search Results
- Click on an item to open it
- Clicking on a row result enables you to edit the row, save your changes and keep working without actually opening the sheet
- Click on the arrow icon to the right of an item to open the sheet to see the item in context
- Note: we only return the 100 most relevant results.
- Note: it may take a few minutes for anything you recently saved to be indexed and available via search.
