Add information to a cell
- Click on a cell and start typing to enter information.
- Use Ctrl+Enter to insert a carriage return in a cell. Apply the Wrap formatting option to a cell or column to see multi-line entries. The Wrap option is located in the format toolbar on the left (next to Align).
- You can type over existing information and save. The previous entry will always be available if you right-click on the cell and select "View History".
Edit a cell
- Double click or use the F2 key to edit the existing text in a cell
Copy, Paste
- Use Ctrl+c to copy information from a document (e.g., from an Excel spreadsheet, email or Word document) and then select a cell in Smartsheet and use Ctrl+v to paste the copied text.
- To copy/paste from one part of a sheet to another, use Ctrl+c/Ctrl+v or the Copy/Paste commands from the cell right-click menu.
- TIP: the copy/paste commands on the right-click menu only work within a Smartsheet. To copy from a document outside of Smartsheet and paste into Smartsheet or between two sheets, you must use the Ctrl+c/Ctrl+v keystroke commands.
- TIP: you can copy an entire row between sheets using the Copy Row to Other Sheet command from the row menu.
Drag Fill
- Select a cell, place your mouse cursor on the lower right corner of the cell, and drag the corner down or across to drag fill (a quick way to copy/paste) the contents of the cell to the other cells.
Spell Check
- As you type, words that might be misspelled will be underlined. You can right click on the underlined word to get a menu of alternative spellings to use as a replacement
- Spell check is also available when you double click on a cell to edit.
- TIP: Spell check is only available if you are using the Firefox, Safari or Chrome browsers. Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser does not enable spell check.
Move Cells
- Select a cell (or cells), place your cursor on the cell border (the cursor image should change to a four-way arrow), click and drag the cell(s) to move them to the desired location.
- Cells that are moved will overwrite the cells where they are placed. Use the Undo button (or Ctrl+z) to undo the move action.
Clear Contents
- Select a cell (or cells) and use the Delete key to clear the current contents of the cell(s) or right-click and select "Clear Contents". The previous entry will always be available if you right-click on the cell and select "View History".
Insert Link
There are two types of links you can insert in a cell (via right click/Insert Link):
- Insert a link to another Smartsheet - this will enable you to quickly open related sheets
- Insert the url for any website - you can make the current text in a cell a live link or add your own text for the link.
