Formatting

Format Toolbar

The Format toolbar on the left side of a sheet has the following formatting options (keyboard shortcuts are shown in parentheses if available):

 

  • Indent (Ctrl+K) - indent the selected row to make it a sub-item of the row above that can be collapsed or expanded
  • Outdent  (Ctrl+M)- outdent the selected row so that it cannot be collapsed or expanded as part of its current grouping
  • Bold  (Ctrl+B)- select bold text style for the selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Underline  (Ctrl+U)- select underline text style for the selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Italic  (Ctrl+I)- select italic text style for the selected selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Strikethrough - select text style with a line through it for the selected selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Font - select a font such as Arial, Times New Roman, or Verdana for the selected selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Font Size - select the text size for the selected selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Font Size Up & Font Size Down - quickly increase or decrease the text size for the selected columns, rows, or cells by clicking on these buttons
  • Align - select horizontal alignment (left, center, or right) or vertical alignment (top, middle, bottom) for the selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Wrap - make all of the text visible in the selected columns, rows, or cells by displaying on multiple lines.  Note: you can manually enter a line break in a cell while typing/editing using the Ctrl+Enter keys)
  • Background Color - select the background color for the selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Font Color - select the text color for the selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Currency - select a currency format (e.g., US Dollar, Euro, Yen) for the selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Percentage - select a percentage format for the selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Number - select a number format with a thousands separator for the selected columns, rows, or cells
  • Decimal Places Up & Down - increase or decrease the number of decimal places displayed in the selected columns, rows, or cells with these buttons

 

Date Format

The default date format (e.g., mm/dd/yy or dd/mm/yy) can be changed by setting your locale.

  • Click on your email link in the upper left and select "Personal Settings"
  • Change your Language (Country) setting.  This will set the appropriate default date format.
