Job Responsibilities: Keep business applications and behind-the-scenes technology running without a hitch. Satisfy ever-changing requirements of business users while staying within a tight budget.

What I do:

I am the key person responsible for making sure the company’s technical infrastructure runs smoothly and cost effectively. At the same time, I need to make sure the employees have the tools they need to deliver their work. I have to balance four major requirements: system security, software expense, employee needs and software integration – a challenge even at the best of times.

As the go-to IT person, I’m sensitive to the large investment the company makes in technology and am careful to analyze and evaluate any new software. I have to assess the value of software tools, be on top of the latest security issues and make sure that any software expenditure not only meets the organization’s needs but is easily integrated into our IT landscape.

With the speed at which technology changes, I don’t have the luxury or patience for expensive customization or a long implementation timeframe. At the same time, I have to provide accessible productivity tools to employees that enable them to complete their work in the most efficient manner.

How I use Smartsheet:

The technology behind Smartsheet dovetails nicely with my IT preferences and guidelines. It is a web-based task management tool that has little impact on my budget but a huge impact on employee productivity. It allows secure collaboration among team members and takes no time to learn and start using. I save time and money while providing a valuable tool to employees. In addition, I use it to track my IT projects and the vast number of requests and support issues that come across my desk.
Key considerations for me include:

  • Bank-level data security for data storage and transmission.
  • Free accounts for people who contribute but don’t create lists for themselves
  • Web based: nothing to install and information is accessible to all team members at any time.
  • Unlimited number of people that can be shared to and unlimited storage of attachments
  • Smartsheet.com is VeriSign secured and offers the highest level of protection
  • Intuitive interface that is easy to learn – people ask me fewer ‘how to’ questions
