Briefly describe your team.

I manage internal and external teams involved with strategic product planning. I directly manage all projects so I interface regularly with the senior team, the CEO, the President and all the Vice Presidents. Basically I work with three different groups, internal and external clients, my direct team and the team I report to, and then the cross functional teams.

How are you using Smartsheet.com?

Our active projects. I built a project road map in Smartsheet so my senior team can look at it at-a-glance and know what’s going on. I also use Smartsheet to create sheets for my team assignments and individual project schedules.

When did you start with us?

May 2007

Why did you choose Smartsheet over other providers?

Price and user interface. Although I liked Microsoft Project, the reality of it is that unless everyone is trained and adopts the program then it doesn’t really work when tracking projects. Also the online collaboration was too expensive for a company of our size. Since Smartsheet runs at about the same speed as Microsoft Project, the change wasn’t that big of a problem. Smartsheet is very intuitive and easy to use.

What issue were you looking to solve?

Collaboration and communication. This day and age people are working remotely, on different continents, in different time zones, etc. Smartsheet has dimished that barrier. Also keeping everything in one location was a problem we were trying to solve. Now in our Smartsheets we have a contact list for each specific project. My sheet has the contacts that go with that project, job titles, name, email, etc. so that anyone who’s working on that project can see exactly who they’re talking to.

What stood out for you?

I really liked the user interface. The tutorials really impressed me, “only have 2 minutes? Watch this video!” I really liked that. I also really like the email blasts “here’s a new feature you can use, here’s how” I love it, its quick and easy, it really impressed me.

What were you using before?

White boards, Microsoft Project, and Excel.

How did Smartsheet.com address what is unique to your business?

Telecommuters: people being located in different time zones and continents. With Smartsheet they can always look into a sheet and get immediate insight into our projects.
