Smartsheet ENGAGE’17 - our inaugural global customer conference - has come and gone, and what an event it was! A sell-out more than a month in advance, over 1,000 enthusiastic members of the Smartsheet community gathered at our HQ in Bellevue, WA for two jam-packed days of genuine connections, hands-on learning, and innovation.
Whether you missed the event this time around - or want to relive it - here’s a quick recap of the top ten moments from ENGAGE’17!
1. Opening Keynote
There was an undeniable electricity in the room for the opening keynote - a great start to ENGAGE’17. Our CEO, Mark Mader, talked about Smartsheet’s foundational belief in the value of “Practical Innovation” and then shared the company’s short and long-term vision on the role automation will play in the conduct of modern work. SVP Gene Farrell announced our new product capabilities - Notification Center, Automated Actions, and an all-new mobile app - and SVP of Engineering, Andy Lientz, discussed the “Build for Scale” philosophy of the engineering and development teams.
2. Every Educational Session was Packed!
ENGAGE’17 participants were eager to learn more about how Smartsheet can benefit them and their businesses, especially how the new capabilities announced at the opening keynote can help them save time and focus on more meaningful work. And the learning doesn’t stop there! The top three ENGAGE‘17 sessions are now available for viewing on our video center.
3. Insightful Analyst Sessions
Alan Lepofsky, VP and Principal Analyst at Constellation Research set the stage for what the future of work will look like in his session “Are You Ready to Become the Employee of the Future?”
Margo Visitacion, VP and Principal Analyst at Forrester Research, examined the increasingly important presence that Collaborative Work Management tools play in helping teams work together in her session, “Collaborative Work Management: Helping Teams to Work Better.” She also explored how creating a culture of collaboration can influence positive change and drive business results in the session “Collaboration - Key to Business Success”.
4. Smartsheet Community Celebration: Taste of the Northwest at Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum
What a setting for a community celebration! In the shadow of Seattle’s famous Space Needle, the beautiful Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum was a fantastic gathering place for our Taste of the Northwest community event. We really enjoyed connecting with customers - from old friends to new faces - and seeing friendships formed between people who had just met.
5. Product Interactive Labs & Sessions
We always love hearing from our customers, and the interactive product sessions at ENGAGE were a great opportunity for us to listen and learn. Customers tested our new user interface at the UI Research Lab, while the Design Research Lab gave customers the opportunity test new design concepts. The participants in the interactive feature prioritization sessions helped shape the future of Smartsheet. Thanks to all who participated - we appreciate your input!
6. Q&A Session with Smartsheet Senior Executives
To kickoff day two, our senior executive team fielded questions from customers on where the company is headed, what the future of mobile means for field workers, and even which features our execs are secretly - or vocally - wishing for. As Mark shared in the opening keynote, we believe that it’s important to be transparent as a company, and our execs really valued the opportunity to candidly connect with customers in this session and throughout the conference.
7. “Miracle on the Hudson” Pilot, Captain “Sully” Sullenberger
Attendees were riveted by an inspiring keynote from Captain “Sully” Sullenberger, the “Miracle on the Hudson” pilot who safely landed US Airways flight 1549 on the Hudson River in 2009, saving the lives of all 150 passengers aboard.
He spoke about innovation, the importance of critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, and leadership. He encouraged the audience to keep learning, growing, and stretching ourselves. He told us in harrowing detail about the 208 seconds that changed his life and defined his career - landing flight 1549 - and asked us to think about which 208 seconds will define ours.
8. Customer Panel Breakout Sessions
A key goal of the conference was to help attendees broaden their understanding of the tremendous number of ways they can use Smartsheet to accomplish more in their businesses. ENGAGE’17 attendees shared their enthusiasm for hearing each other’s stories in a number of customer panel breakout sessions, including “Are You Ready to Become the Employee of the Future?”, “Smartsheet in Marketing”, “Smartsheet in Retail”, and “Smartsheet in Finance and HR”.
9. Design Desk Sessions
As part of ENGAGE’17 our team offered complimentary 30-minute Design Desk sessions to all attendees. Those who participated received personalized answers, suggestions, and ideas for optimizing their use of Smartsheet - and from them we learned even more ways to use Smartsheet!
10. Announcing Smartsheet ENGAGE’18
