BELLEVUE, WASHINGTON – July 10, 2008 – It took two decades and hundreds of products from a host of companies, but, a privately-held Software as a Service (SaaS) provider that makes teams more productive through innovative online applications, has finally taken online project collaboration to the next level.

Smartsheet research uncovered that 90% of business teams are still using a combination of spreadsheets and e-mail to track work, even though those products still pose problems. Launched today, the company’s breakthrough beta product allows teams of people to assign tasks, track projects and effortlessly share information.

Enhancing Next-Generation E-Mail and Spreadsheets

As a result, teams using Smartsheet’s beta can see who has done what on a project – and how the project is actually progressing – without digging deep into their inboxes or consulting prior versions of spreadsheets. The new solution also provides everyone on a team – not just the leaders – with the ability to track real-time changes concurrently, associate documents with action items, get notification of important project changes, and update items in parallel. “Over 30,000 teams in more than 25 countries have experienced Smartsheet Classic, our original product,” says Brent Frei, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of “And, after 23 months of testing in plain sight, we believe we’ve formulated the secret sauce in a product space that has resisted a killer app for over 20 years. We’re determined to become the Google of work tracking to help solve team productivity needs.”

Increasing Enterprise Accountability, Results and Profits

Adds Mark Mader,’s CEO: “We’re trying to increase productivity in non-automated jobs that require people to collaborate and use their judgment and expertise. When companies deploy transparent and accessible next-generation productivity technology that tracks specific work performance in real-time, we believe they can increase accountability, results and profits.” The Smartsheet beta product, which launches with a number of high-demand features, will be continue to be updated over the next few months.
