UX Researcher II (Remote Eligible in Bulgaria)

For over 20 years, Smartsheet has helped people and teams achieve–well, anything. From seamless work management to smart, scalable solutions, we’ve always worked with flow. We’re building tools that empower teams to automate the manual, uncover insights, and scale smarter. But more than that, we’re creating space– space to think big, take action, and unlock the kind of work that truly matters. Because when challenge meets purpose, and passion turns into progress, that’s magic at work, and it’s what we show up for everyday.

The UX Research (UXR) Team leads critical research efforts at Smartsheet. Our goal is to empower our Product Design partners with the insights they need to make well-informed design decisions. We also use our insights and perspective to inform cross-functional product development and alignment. We're a highly motivated, detail-oriented group with a passion for products, people, and bigger-picture insights.

Researchers at Smartsheet come from a diverse range of traditional and non-traditional backgrounds. We apply a wide range of research methodologies, human-centered design practices, and principles of human cognition to create engaging, valuable, and intuitive user experiences for our customers. As a member of the User Experience team, you'll shape the future of work.

You will work remotely from Bulgaria and will be reporting to the Sr. Manager, UX Research.

You Will:

  • Drive strategic impact at the feature level while broadening influence by applying insights holistically across an entire experience and product pillar, demonstrating deep knowledge of UX research principles and their application to complex product ecosystems.
  • Execute end-to-end research by identifying tasks and activities with a high degree of independent judgement, collaborating with the team to prioritise research questions, and creating a research roadmap that balances competing priorities across multiple workstreams.
  • Adapt research methodologies with analytical rigour, shifting effectively between rapid, lightweight approaches and comprehensive, in-depth studies as determined by the specific research questions, while clearly articulating the limitations and trade-offs of each approach.
  • Uplevel insights by providing recommendations that expand the team's knowledge beyond a single project, moving from tactical findings to strategic, cross-cutting insights that inform broader product thinking.
  • Influence product priority and strategy — with guidance — in addition to contributing to near-term design and product improvements, bringing a structured, evidence-based perspective to cross-functional planning discussions.
  • Apply multiple generative and evaluative research methods to answer product and design questions, drawing well-reasoned conclusions from varied and sometimes ambiguous data types.
  • Proactively build collaborative relationships with product and design partners, establishing the research function as a trusted, central resource for the product team through clear communication and consistent stakeholder engagement.
  • Contribute to the team's overall customer intuition by leveraging competitive insights and user data to propose features that strengthen the product's market position, demonstrating sound business awareness.
  • Handle research data and documentation with care and confidentiality, ensuring findings are accurately recorded, appropriately stored, and communicated in formats suited to different audiences.
  • Manage the planning and organisation of multiple research studies simultaneously, maintaining quality and rigour while meeting project timelines and adapting to shifting priorities.
  • Sustain focus and mental effort across cognitively demanding research cycles, including periods of intensive analysis, synthesis, and insight generation that require sustained concentration and careful judgement.
  • Demonstrate resilience and composure when working with ambiguity, navigating shifting priorities, or managing feedback from multiple stakeholders in a fast-moving product environment.
  • Perform standard computer and keyboard use in a remote environment as a regular part of this role.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You Have:

  • 3–5 years of experience in UX research or a related field, demonstrating a breadth of methodological knowledge and the ability to apply research expertise independently across varied product contexts.
  • Experience with multiple generative and evaluative research methods and the ability to draw appropriate, well-reasoned conclusions from varied data types, including qualitative and quantitative sources.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to understand the needs of different audiences, adapt presentation styles accordingly, and engage effectively with cross-functional partners and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating within or alongside product and design teams, with a demonstrated ability to build trust-based working relationships and contribute to team alignment.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and how they process and synthesise data, including an awareness of associated risks such as bias and hallucinations, and the ability to apply this understanding critically within a research context.
  • Experience managing research documentation, data handling, and reporting with attention to accuracy and confidentiality.
  • No direct financial responsibility is required for this role, though an awareness of resource constraints and research prioritisation within a business context is expected.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field — such as Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Journalism, Anthropology, Communication, or Design — or equivalent practical experience.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Legally eligible to work in Bulgaria on an ongoing basis.
