Work Coordination Platforms Bring Structure to Projects and Processes

Break Free From Work Silos With Collaborative Work Management

Evaluating tools for collaborative work management? Constellation Research’s Alan Lepofsky takes a look at the landscape of available platforms and tools, and shares his analysis on:

  • Five ways these tool enhance projects and processes

  • Important criteria for selecting the right tool for your business

  • 14 vendors and details of their offerings

According to Lepofsky, who is Vice President and principal analyst at Constellation Research, the landscape has come a long way from the original project management tools that were used only by a small group of professionally certified project managers. Those tools “defined complex project road maps filled with Gantt charts and resource allocations,” Lepofsky writes. “They monitored task status and reported the overall health of a project at set intervals, such as in weekly meetings. Meanwhile, the people ‘doing the work’ were left to communicate and collaborate via email, spreadsheets, chat messages and other disconnected applications.” Today’s tools eliminate these silos, “empowering everyone with a single integrated application where they can organize all of the people, content, conversations and business records involved with a project or process.”
