Fewer headaches and a smooth plan to compliance: Smartsheet Gov can ease concerns as CMMC 2.0 goes into effect

by The Smartsheet Team

Federal agencies and the vendors that support them are processing the news that the DOD is planning to use NIST 800-171 as evaluation criteria prior to CMMC 2.0. NIST 800-171 is a framework for how to handle and protect federal controlled unclassified information, and once CMMC 2.0 goes into effect in 2023, contractors who don’t meet the requirements will be forbidden from working with the DOD. Under CMMC 2.0, contractors will have to meet, at minimum, 110 security practices to do business with the U.S. military on projects that call for cybersecurity beyond the most basic level.

Fortunately, contractors and agencies using Smartsheet Gov can rest assured that Smartsheet Gov will allow them to meet their requirements under the forthcoming CMMC 2.0 framework.

Smartsheet Gov is FedRAMP (JAB) Moderate and DISA IL4 authorized. Subsequently this cloud service – already used by several federal agencies – offers a wide range of capabilities and can be leveraged within CMMC 2.0 guidelines. Smartsheet Gov can support certain types of sensitive information in the federal space and can provide the necessary documentation related to FedRAMP authorization. Thanks to the substantial degree of reciprocity that exists for the security requirements for FedRAMP-authorized platforms like Smartsheet that meet or exceed most CMMC requirements, Smartsheet will automatically meet or exceed whatever the new requirement criteria will be. So while DOD teams, contracting offices, and vendors may feel they need to scramble to meet the new requirements, those looking for a smooth path to compliance and fewer CMMC headaches can continue to work with Smartsheet Gov.

Smartsheet Gov is built specifically to address demanding federal government security requirements around Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), as that term is generally defined by the federal government, and is the first SaaS product in the collaborative work management (CWM) space to receive FedRAMP Moderate and DoD IL4 designations. This means it can store CUI, including certain personally identifiable and health information – making it a great option for defense agencies and their providers.

Smartsheet Gov is built on a security framework rooted in continuous monitoring. For federal agencies that need to share data, track and automate tasks, and make better decisions faster, Smartsheet Gov is the secure, FedRAMP compliant cloud-based CWM platform that boosts mission outcomes.
