Smartsheet Uses Microsoft Azure Active Directory to Streamline Access for Enterprise Collaboration

Seamless integration of Microsoft’s cloud services on Smartsheet’s popular work management platform gives people the freedom to trial and use apps with their company-managed credentials

Bellevue, Wash. – Jan. 13, 2015 - Smartsheet, the spreadsheet-inspired collaborative work management tool used by millions worldwide, today announced its seamless integration of Microsoft Office 365 and Azure Active Directory. Smartsheet customers on the Microsoft platform can now access projects and processes more securely in Smartsheet with their company-managed credentials. The connection between Microsoft’s increasingly popular cloud platform and the Smartsheet work management platform powers the future of unified work, and also enables users to trial and use Smartsheet in a way that adheres to IT administrators’ cloud security strategies.

“The cloud is reprioritizing ‘Maslow's order of apps’ within companies and productivity tools have risen to the top," said Mark Mader, president and CEO of Smartsheet. "Azure Active Directory integration has made the handshake between Smartsheet and the Office tools we use most, like email and file storage, seamless and effective. The utility and increased adoption of Office 365 driven by its connection to Smartsheet's work management platform is a big benefit to our customers."

Both end users and IT administrators benefit from the new single sign-on access:

●    Organizations using Azure Active Directory can now easily provide user authentication to Smartsheet using one set of company credentials from any Windows, Mac or iOS device. This additional convenience helps workers trial Smartsheet as well as sign into existing Smartsheet accounts.

●    Access to Smartsheet is also now available in the Office 365 app launcher which gives users the ability to quickly launch the collaboration tool and access their sheets alongside all the tools they use everyday.

●    IT administrators are able to make cloud apps such as Smartsheet available on a wide-scale basis much more easily by using a centralized platform to manage access. They have the necessary controls and visibility they need to ensure critical data remains more secure, while still allowing employees to choose tools that work for their situation.

“Smartsheet is a popular SaaS tool that has a strong and growing presence among our customer base,” said Alex Simons, Director of Program Manager, Azure Active Directory. “Simplifying access to best-of-breed apps such as Smartsheet, Concur and Salesforce is fundamental to our cloud strategy. We’re excited about Smartsheet’s new offering.”

Smartsheet’s work management tool is used by nearly 60,000 paying organizations to collaborate, plan and execute a broad spectrum of projects and processes, including marketing campaigns, product launches, business operations, manufacturing processes, strategic planning and HR initiatives. Adoption across organizations grows quickly as users share sheets to collaborate with others. Many of the world’s industry-leading organizations have deployed Smartsheet broadly such as Google, GSA, Netflix, Cisco, Bayer, Groupon, Pearson, HomeAway, McGraw-Hill Education, DHL, ESPN, Colliers, Sony Music and MetLife.
