John Creason to be recognized as a winner of the 2015 Outstanding CTO Award for exceptional contributions towards technology and innovation

Bellevue, Wash. – Dec. 3, 2015 - Smartsheet, the spreadsheet-inspired collaborative work management platform used by millions of people worldwide, today announced that its chief technology officer (CTO), John Creason, was selected as the winner of the Puget Sound Business Journal’s (PSBJ) annual Leadership in Innovation and Technology Awards in the Outstanding CTO category. The award recognizes top executives who have leveraged technology in innovative ways to create a competitive advantage, optimize business processes, and impact the bottom line of the company and/or its customers.

“John is a true pioneer in developing new technologies that help people and companies work more intelligently,” said Mark Mader, CEO of Smartsheet. “As a co-founder of the company, John is obviously a key reason why Smartsheet exists today, but more importantly, his continued drive and unwavering pursuit of excellence has set an example for those of us fortunate enough to work with and know him.”

Smartsheet is a work management and collaboration platform that takes the familiar look and feel of spreadsheets and marries it with the functionality of a collaboration and project management tool. Since building the initial product framework 10 years ago, Creason’s leadership and vision has played a vital role in making Smartsheet the successful company it is today. Currently, Smartsheet has more than 70,000 paying customers, including Google, Groupon, the GSA, and Cisco; and that number continues to grow as more people and businesses around the world adopt the tool. Creason believes that software is “never done,” and this mindset has guided his vision for Smartsheet and helped make the company the leading collaborative work management tool provider in the world.

“Across my career, I have had the opportunity to discover exactly what I love and where I truly excel. Somehow I am wired in a way where my work has to be tangible. I need to make things, build things, fix things, invent things. And I do not give up. I have had the good fortune at Smartsheet to be able to craft my role precisely around my strengths and my passion,” said Creason. “As a company, Smartsheet is really only scratching the surface of what we can achieve, and I look forward to going to work every day to see what we can do next.”

The recognition by the PSBJ follows on the heels of meaningful recognition from Google and Microsoft. Last month, Smartsheet was named one of the first solutions in Google’s new “Recommended for Google Apps for Work” program, which is designed to help Google customers discover solutions that work best with their existing productivity tools and to find apps they can trust. In July, Microsoft named Smartsheet the “Best Office 365 App” in its 2015 Office App Awards program at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) in Orlando.

Smartsheet is used by organizations across all major industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, financial services, retail, non-profit, media, technology and many others. Half of all Fortune 500 companies use Smartsheet and more than 70 percent of Fortune 100 companies utilize the cloud-based service. Ten thousand new sheets are created everyday with Smartsheet, underscoring the rapid adoption and usage of the tool worldwide to track and manage projects, processes, and work.
