Microsoft + Yahoo = More Options for Online Marketers

mcola - Feb 4 2008 - 1:00am

I am reading the latest news on the Microsoft bid for Yahoo. The New York Times reports that “Google emerged over the weekend with plans to play the role of spoiler.” But a spoiler for whom? In the cloudy world of paid search, a Microsoft/Yahoo union may provide more options for a market currently dominated by Google. Today, it is widely known that it is tough to duplicate Google’s paid search results on any other search engine. This gives Google the ability to quickly add new concepts into their algorithm such as the quality score introduced a few years ago.... Read more

Jott Reduces DWI (Driving While iPhoning)

Mark Mader - Jan 30 2008 - 1:00am

What’s worse? Hearing the PC shut down just as you remember those two items you had to add to the project list or feeling your heart race as you come close to trading paint with the BMW in the neighboring lane because you want to see if you correctly entered the task into your iPhone? OK, the latter is far worse…but both cause my blood pressure to uptick.... Read more

Long Distance Relationships: The Pros and Cons of the Virtual Team

Mark Mader - Jan 28 2008 - 1:00am

Ever been in a long distance relationship? They're not easy...or at least they weren't when I was in college in the late 80's. Lack of communication made it tough. There was no IM, no Facebook, and no MySpace. There were no pocket-size cell phones and e-mail was a novelty. The tool of choice was the dorm room telephone and, with the genesis of 'unlimited night and weekend minutes' a decade away, you could amass a pretty decent monthly phone bill if you weren't careful.... MarketingSherpa Article on Multivariate Testing

I posted a few weeks ago on our multivariate testing effort which substantially improved our conversion rate on landing pages. Chris Heine from MarketingSherpa just posted an in depth look at the project.

If you need to "adopt" it, it's probably not enterprise 2.0

mcola - Jan 23 2008 - 1:00am

Mark presented on a conference call today for The Working Group. A very cool social network focusing on enterprise 2.0 solutions and how they can help companies become more productive from the inside out.

I find it interesting that the dialogue around enterprise 2.0 is still so focused on adoption. Companies are talking about how you go about finding teams with enough pain to adopt an entirely new solution and how do you encourage and assist with that adoption?... Read more

R&R (no, not Rest and Recreation)

Mark Mader - Jan 15 2008 - 1:00am

When shopping online, have you seen the ‘Click to See Price. Too Low to Show!’ links? Some may enjoy that shopping experience, others (me included) find this extra step a bit annoying. Display the price and don’t extend the time it takes me to purchase something online.... Read more

Mark Mader - Jan 9 2008 - 1:00am

Our users have always had choices in deciding what operating system or browser the use when accessing Smartsheet. We have supported Internet Explorer (PC) and Firefox (PC, MAC, Linux) since inception, and in recent months started support for Safari (MAC). Does 'Double your Results' Grab You?

mcola - Dec 27 2007 - 1:00am

This is Maria Colacurcio, VP of Marketing at Smartsheet. A few weeks ago I presented at the Search Engine Strategies Conference in Chicago. My presentation was in tandem with Bob Bergquist, CEO of Widemile, another local firm who does multivariate testing to optimize landing pages and paid search campaigns.... Read more

The Importance of Speed

Mark Mader - Dec 10 2007 - 1:00am

I remember powering up the Radio Shack TRS-80 in Lakeside Middle School's computer lab. It was 1983 and our 7th grade class was pretty excited about tinkering around with this donated equipment. We weren't quite sure what we were supposed to do with it - but we were excited nonetheless.... Read more

The 300

Mark Mader - Nov 29 2007 - 1:00am

My wife sighed when "300" arrived at the house last week. I had once again intercepted the Netflix queue, prioritizing an action movie over Thomas the Tank Engine. Needless to say, I watched this one alone.... Read more
